In today's world, your personal brand is often your first introduction — long before a handshake, a meeting, or even a conversation.
Whether someone discovers you through LinkedIn, a Google search, or a referral, the impression they form is shaped by how clearly and consistently you present yourself.
Personal branding is no longer reserved for celebrities or influencers; it is a strategic necessity for executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals who want to stand out, build trust, and create opportunity.
At its core, personal branding is the intentional expression of who you are, what you stand for, and the value you bring. It's not about perfection — it's about alignment. When your visual presence, messaging, and reputation all work together, your brand becomes magnetic.
To help you to evaluate where you are with your brand, and how others see you, here are four questions to consider:
Now, let's take your answers from above, and start to re-think and re-define who you are today, and where you can take your already established brand to raise and leverage your value. When “The Crown” series came out, were you like me? Maybe you were like me and found yourself immersed in this Netflix production, lured into the web of historic reflection, beautiful scenery, artistic license, and of course relationship drama.
I have been reflecting on Queen Elizabeth II and the fact that she reigned for 70 years. She was the definition of resilience and majesty in the best light. Her Diamond Jubilee celebration encapsulated her devoted character and flawless loyalty as the second longest reigning monarch in history (do you think she might be upset about being topped by the froggy Frenchman, Louis XIV?).
Annie Leibovitz, an American photographer, was invited to capture Queen Elizabeth II in 2007, and chose the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace as the setting. Annie and her team created an opulent Portrait of HRH Elizabeth R., heavenly light streaming through the 1837 windows which had been constructed for the young Queen Victoria.
Indulge your eyes here on this Portrait; by royal definition, this is the picture of intimacy. Her Majesty the Queen and Sovereign over Great Britain perched beautifully in full regalia, illuminated in light, every historic detail in place. Dutiful, renown, steadfastly ruling over her subjects across the globe. (Image credit: Annie Leibovitz)
Now let's consider another royal: Lady Di.
Ten years earlier Vanity Fair had asked the Peruvian photographer, Mario Testino, to create a Portrait of Diana Princess of Wales in 1997. The session would aim to document her in her royal dresses before they were auctioned-off for charity.
Testino chose to capture this royal in a new light. He chose to set her in a former Battersea school building with whitewashed brick walls and cement floors: this might sound dingy, but the results changed her life. (Image credit: Mario Testino)
Instead of the typical layers of powders, heavy heirloom jewels, and stiff ballgowns of her royal life, she was positioned in simple, modern, approachable poses.
The place, setting, and lighting was kept to a minimum to suit the new non-ceremonial life Lady Diana had started to lead – and her natural personality and beauty came through. The photographs show a happy, playful side to Diana with a beautiful smile that was no longer hidden under all her royal hats.
What do these two Portraits say about their subject?
When it comes to defining your Personal Brand and bringing out your best, a historic power setting such as the Royal Throne can be just as meaningful as cement floors.
Mario Testino and his team photographed Lady Di five months before she tragically passed away. I am thankful that he took a chance and chose the floor as the pedestal for this heartfelt, compassion, energetic “Queen of Hearts”.
And, by the way, Mario had received a letter from Lady Di shortly after the Portrait session saying that the shoot in the old Battersea schoolroom had been one of the happiest days of her life; the photographs say it all.
This is the time to re-think and re-define who you are today, and how to leverage your value; it's time to elevate!
